Shams E Tabrizi Museum

Project Description

The Shams Tabrizi Museum, a project from a national competition held in 2013 in Iran by AA design studio, is located in Khoy, Iran, at the shrine of Shams e Tabrizi. This project, inspired by the Ishraqi philosophy of Jalal-Al-Din Rumi and Sufism's eternal philosophy, draws on the essence of unity. The tomb of Shams-i Tabrīzī, situated beside a tower monument in a memorial park, has been nominated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Center.
The design concept focuses on concealing the museum, library, and conference hall underground to maintain a minimalist aesthetic and promote social and cultural interactions. The site's flat, unbuilt area encourages urban accessibility and various activities. The organic and free internal plan forms enhance the project's fluidity and openness. Notably, this project was shortlisted in the competition by the jury board.
